From spring to autumn, sailors, regatta professionals, and canoeists bring the area to life. Anglers enjoy a particularly diverse range of fishing opportunities here.
For where fresh and salt water meet, pike, perch, garfish and plaice frolic together.
The maritime ensemble creates an atmosphere in the harbor: the tall ship Gorch Fock I, the gleaming white Oceanarium
in front of the red brick warehouses and the Rügen Bridge, which towers above everything as the highest landmark.
And then there are the sensory impressions that never cease: the scent of freshly smoked fish.
The salty taste of the Baltic Sea air. And the eternal spectacle of the seagulls patiently waiting for their "leftovers".
A class of its own
The Gorch Fock I in the city harbor
Built in 1933 by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, she is the lead ship - the first ship built - of the Gorch Fock class. Four of her identical sister ships are still sailing the world's oceans as sailing training ships. The first-built Gorch Fock I, which is located in Stralsund harbor (her home port), experienced an eventful and rather turbulent time after her service as a sailing training ship for the German Navy.
We don't want to tell this story here. You should rather go on board the ship and look for clues in the tall ship's exhibition. We hope you enjoy it and always have a hand's breadth of water under your keel.
bathing pleasure at the lido
The beach in the heart of the city
A stroll along the Sundpromenade takes you from the old town to the Stralsund lido in just 10 minutes. Here the whole family can enjoy pure bathing fun and a view over the Strelasund to the island of Rügen.
The gently sloping shore and the beach playground with lots of swings, slides and climbing equipment make the beach the ideal place for all families with children on hot summer days. If you prefer something quieter, just spread your towel a little further away from the hustle and bustle - there is enough space for everyone on the almost one kilometer long beach. Since there are no car parking spaces at the beach, public transport or bicycle are the best ways to get to the beach. Bus line 4 leads to the stop "Klinikum am Sund". From here it is only a few meters down to the water.
