Architecture & Civic Pride
Since the early Middle Ages, buildings in Stralsund have been predominantly constructed of brick. Magnificent structures such as the three large churches and the town hall, which have always shaped the cityscape, were built from this material. Residential and commercial buildings were also frequently constructed of brick. Many of the gabled houses were subsequently plastered, painted in various colors, and decorated.
