Stralsund - a World Heritage Site
Once a powerful Hanseatic city, Stralsund with its magnificent brick buildings is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stralsund has been officially entitled to the title of "World Heritage" since 2002. At that time, UNESCO included the historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar together on the World Heritage List. This prestigious title refers to a fascinating city - and that is exactly what Stralsund is. When you look at all the lovingly restored and impressive buildings, you feel like you have been transported back to the 14th and 15th centuries, when Stralsund was one of the most powerful and richest Hanseatic cities.
A special route that "Paths to Brick Gothic", takes guests to the most important buildings. These include the remains of the city wall, the two well-preserved city gates, various impressive gabled houses and, last but not least, the town hall with its impressive facade.
